Sustainable Investments in Europe
Eco-innovation, environmental technologies and sustainable management of natural resources are part of the European Lisbon Strategy to reinforce competitiveness and innovation in Europe. If Europe wants to play a leading role in the field of ecological products and services, how can it mobilise investments to encourage the companies, which serve those markets? What roles and services are demanded of private banks, their local agencies and the European Investment Fund? What are the demands and needs of the project leaders or investors? What role play local authorities and the state in France? The project is in development and supported by the French Ministry for Ecology and Sustainable Development and Spatial Planning, the Dutch Ministry for the Environment and the European Commission (Environmental Technologies Action Plan (ETAP)).
It is led by the organisation European Partners for the Environment (EPE) and developed by Orée in France.
Meetings on how to put the project into practice were held in several regions in France. They serve as exchange platforms and aim at providing a leverage effect for sustainable investments in the area of eco-innovation, environmental technologies and sustainable management of natural resources. In April 2006, an introductory seminar on the topic: “Financial leverage for sustainable investments at the local level” was organised in Lyon with the support of the Rhône-Alpes Region.
