Handbook for Industrial Ecology in Industrial Parks
In process This handbook is the result of two years collaborative work of a working group coordinated by Orée. It is mainly directed at industrial park managers and planners, public authorities and company managers, who commit themselves to a sustainable development policy. The implementation of an industrial ecology approach depends necessarily on a dynamic partnership and on the shared intentions of these stakeholders, who should therefore clearly define their role and their room for manoeuvre in such projects. This type of process favours the combination of competencies and the emergence of innovative forms of local governance. The handbook is divided into three parts: presentation of the industrial ecology and the answers it provides concerning the sustainable management of industrial parks, proposal of a comprehensible and operational methodology to carry out an industrial ecology project at the landscape level, compilation of French and international case studies.
The essential drive for this approach is the economic rationality: Industrial ecology aims at reducing the environmental impacts caused by human activities but it should also be regarded as a generator of profit and opportunities for the companies as well as a factor for territorial attractiveness.
