The objective of the Environmental Education Handbook is to help companies and local authorities develop an environmental culture among their employees in order to encourage them to respect the environment in everyday life and at the workplace. This publication provides a compilation of documents within an educational approach and with regard to sustainable development. It is designed to serve as a support in further vocational training courses, which give an introduction to environmental problems and good environmentally friendly practices. 
In view of the developments regarding environmental regulations and in view of the fact that new concepts like eco-responsibility, risk management and environmental management of transport and mobility arise, the first edition of this tool, which was published in 1999, is being updated.

Three target groups can be identified:

- companies
- local authorities
- administration

Updating the content includes:

• The revision of the moderator's guide
  The persons using this handbook are mainly environmental officers or consultants organising further training courses. Nevertheless, it is possible that the moderator lacks the necessary environmental culture or even the ability to moderate.
  Consequently, when designing this handbook one has to consider the level of qualification of the moderator concerning environmental questions as well as the moderating method. Therefore, the handbook provides step-by-step assistance, and helps the moderator to acquaint himself with the tool and to understand all the facets of the issue.

• A pertinent choice and definition of the topics
  The handbook allows identifying the challenges and the main environmental topics (water, air, energy, soil, waste, risks, transport, etc.), presents environmental stakeholders, applicable tools, eco-responsible actions (with a category « individual actions ») and generally accepted unexamined beliefs (stereotypes). Additionally, it contains a glossary.

The form
The handbook is available on CD-ROM.

It contains:
- a moderator's guide describing the thematic contents;
- a dynamic, illustrated moderation assistance tool (for video projector);
- specific advice on how to organise and moderate the session.
