Charter
Ratified by the Annual General Meeting 2001*, this charter has the ambition to clearly show the commitment of the members of the non-profit organisation Orée. This shall encourage the member companies and local authorities to continuously improve their environmental performances, as well as motivate those who wish to join Orée. MEMBER COMPANIES AND LOCAL AUTHORITIES As a member of Orée, my organisation commits itself to respect the following principles in its activities: On its policy regarding sustainable development and the environment: 1. It considers the economy to be at the service of mankind and that the environment represents: one of its three fields of responsibility, on equal footing with economic and social issues; a crucial factor for sustainable development.
On its strategic goals: 2. It establishes a formalised environmental management and elaborates a code of good practices for its organisation. 3. It establishes that compliance with regulations is the minimum goal to achieve. 4. It sets itself targets to reduce the environmental impacts of its activities. On its activities: 5. It integrates in its activities: security and protection of humans and the environment; preservation of natural resources; the future of its products after use.
6. It undertakes a risk assessment analysis for its products and services and takes the necessary preventive or precautionary measures to minimise the risks. On its internal organisation and communication: 7. It guarantees the education and training of its employees in terms of security and environmental issues. 8. It carries out consultations on projects, which could have an impact on citizens. 9. It develops sincere and transparent environmental communication tools. On its activities beyond the organisation: 10. It commits itself not to participate in any action whose objectives are in conflict with the protection of the environment and/or citizens. 11.
